Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The generous grant from the Petfinder Foundation and KONG has had a direct and meaningful impact on the animals in our care and the dedicated foster families who welcome them into their homes. As a completely foster-based rescue, we rely on our foster volunteers to provide love, structure, and enrichment to pets as they prepare for adoption. Thanks to this grant, every new foster pet received a KONG toy, which has been invaluable in helping them adjust to their new environment.
For our dogs, these enrichment toys provide mental stimulation, alleviate stress, and help redirect energy in a positive way -- especially for those who come from challenging backgrounds. Many of our fosters have shared that KONG toys have made a real difference in easing a pet’s transition, reducing anxiety, and encouraging healthy chewing habits. The interactive toys have offered a fun and engaging way to build confidence and prevent boredom.
This grant has not only enhanced the well-being of the animals we serve but has also provided our fosters with an essential tool to help their new companions settle in smoothly. We are so grateful for this support, as it strengthens our ability to give every rescued pet the best possible start on their journey to a forever home!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
One of the pets this grant helped was Marley, a wonderful dog who spent over a year and a half in our care while waiting for his perfect home. Because Marley needed to be the only pet in his adoptive home, his foster family — who had other animals — used a “crate and rotate” system to keep everyone safe. This meant that mental enrichment was absolutely essential to keeping Marley happy and engaged while he spent time in his crate.
Thanks to the generous donation of KONG toys, Marley had access to enrichment activities that helped reduce stress, provide stimulation, and make his time in foster care more enjoyable. His foster parent filled his KONGs with treats and food puzzles, giving him something fun to work on and helping him stay content even when he needed to be separated from the resident pets.
Marley’s patience paid off when he was finally adopted at our 2024 Home for the Holidays event! His new family absolutely adores him, and he now gets all the love and attention he deserves. This grant played a meaningful role in helping Marley on his journey, making his extended stay in foster care more comfortable while he waited for his perfect match.
