Precious Paws Rescue: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The $2,000 grant awarded to Precious Paws Rescue has proven invaluable in our mission to provide essential care to animals in need. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, we welcomed 27 dogs into our foster program, many of whom required immediate medical attention upon arrival.

One such case was Boomer, a young puppy diagnosed with parvovirus shortly after entering our care. Boomer's condition necessitated urgent treatment at the local veterinary emergency clinic, incurring unexpected expenses for our organization. However, thanks to the grant, we were able to cover the costs of Boomer's intensive care, ensuring he received the treatment he desperately needed.

This financial assistance not only facilitated Boomer's remarkable recovery but also enabled us to continue our rescue efforts without compromising our ability to care for other animals in need.

Today, Boomer is thriving in his foster home, embodying the transformative impact of the grant funding on both individual animals and our organization's overarching mission.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Boomer, along with his brother Si, entered the care of Precious Paws Rescue at just 3 months old after being surrendered by their family.

They originated from a remote northern-Ontario First Nations community facing challenges with dog overpopulation. Boomer’s family made the difficult decision to surrender the brothers to our rescue, recognizing that they did not have the capacity to care for them.

Shortly after his arrival, Boomer exhibited symptoms of parvovirus, prompting immediate medical attention at our local veterinary emergency clinic. Following over 24 hours of intensive treatment, including intravenous fluids and medications, Boomer showed signs of improvement and was able to return to his foster family. He underwent a period of medication and specialized dietary care, ultimately making a complete recovery.

Boomer has since received comprehensive veterinary care, including vaccinations, neutering, and microchipping, and is now ready to find his forever home. We eagerly anticipate Boomer’s adoption, confident that he will bring joy and companionship to his future family.
