Pet Placement Center: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We are a small no-kill dog and cat shelter that receives no government funding and survives soley on the generosity of donors, fundraisers, and grants. We do take in a lot of animals with special needs, and often there are unexpected illnesses or injuries requiring emergency vet visits, specialized treatments, and surgeries. This grant helps us continue to take on those with special needs and to take care of animals with unexpected situations and costs.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Mary is a 2-year-old Staffie/pit mix girl who sustained a front leg fracture while in foster care and needed to have surgery to stabilize, as both the radius and ulna were broken.

The surgery total, with pain meds and follow-up care, was more than $4,000, so we appreciate receiving funds to go towards this sudden and unexpected expense.

Fortunately, Mary was able to recover in a foster home and was cleared from any restrictions. After a recent follow-up, Mary’s surgeon stated that she is fully healed.

Her foster mom just recently adopted her on February 22, 2024, so Mary gets to enjoy her life with the family that helped her get through a tough time.
