Georgian Triangle Humane Society: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant directly supported the care and well-being of the animals at the Georgian Triangle Humane Society by helping us cover essential operational expenses such as veterinary treatments, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, parasite prevention, food, and behavioral enrichment. With an average of more than 120 new animals entering our care each month (135 in July, 128 in August, and 111 in September), these funds alleviated significant operational strain and allowed us to focus on proactive rehoming and individualized support.

The grant helped us maintain high standards of care, ensuring that every pet received timely medical treatment and behavioral support, ultimately improving their adoptability and reducing their length of stay. This directly translated into strong adoption outcomes: 123 pets were adopted in July, 122 in August, and 134 in September. In short, this grant has not only improved the health and comfort of pets in our shelter but has also made it possible for them to transition more quickly into loving homes.

How many pets did this grant help?

We estimate that this grant will directly benefit at least 100 pets this year. Each one of these animals will receive the medical care, nutrition, and behavioral support they need to thrive while in our care and to be matched successfully with their forever families.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

January (first three photos) is a 2-year-old female cat who came to GTHS with a history of constipation issues. Thanks to the grant, we were able to provide her with the specialized veterinary support she needed, including transitioning her to a Fibre Response diet that allowed her to be weaned off laxatives and return to normal bowel health.

With her medical challenges resolved, January’s personality was able to shine. She is affectionate, playful, and endlessly chatty — often following her people from room to room, chirping and meowing about her day.

Because of the grant, January was adopted into a loving home where she now enjoys being her family’s constant companion and “conversation buddy.”

Her story is just one example of the dozens of lives transformed through this funding.
