Little RESQ: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We operate a reptile shelter, and even though our animals may not have fur or paws, they require the same level of care as other pets. Thanks to this grant, we have provided our shelter animals with extended care, giving them more time to find their forever homes.
Our team of dedicated volunteers are equipped to educate potential adopters on the unique needs and characteristics of these fascinating reptiles, helping to create lasting and fulfilling matches between the snakes and their new families. Sometimes this doesn't happen right away for our scaled friends, so having the additional time to promote them has been very worth it.
Snakes are a polarizing pet for many people, and the additional time with us has really given these snakes their best chances at being adopted. It has also allowed us to run adoption initiatives with our volunteers in person and on social media.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
One of the snakes who has benefitted from this grant is named Jazz (first and second photos). He’s a salmon boa who came to us from Animal Services.
He has since been adopted to a loving home where he can live his best life with a knowledgeable forever family. Due to the funding received from this grant, we were able to provide additional assistance to the adopter in their decision to add Jazz to their family.
The new family has reported that Jazz is adjusting beautifully, enjoying his spacious enclosure and showing signs of healthy adjustment and activity.
Jazz’s story is just one of many successes made possible by the generosity of the Petfinder Foundation. Each adoption not only provides a forever home for a deserving snake but also spreads awareness about responsible pet ownership and the unique joy of sharing your life with these fascinating creatures.
