Paws Above Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant allowed us to reduce pet adoption fees for dogs who have been in our care for an extended time. Reducing the adoption fees helps to make it easier for more people to consider adopting. As many animal rescues are experiencing, adoptions are taking longer than expected.

We are pleased to announce that Lexi is now adopted! After eight months in our care, Lexi finally found a forever home.

Lexi is a very timid dog who is frightened by new situations and people. Before being rescued in 2023, Lexi lived on the streets of Mexico, surviving on scraps of food thrown to her from a food truck. It is unknown how people treated her to make her so fearful. It took six months with her foster mom before Lexi wagged her tail. Unfortunately, her fear put potential adopters off.

Lexi did best at her foster home when other foster dogs were there. But many dogs came and went, until it was just Lexi.

Longtime supporters of Paws Above Rescue decided to foster Lexi so she could be with other dogs, namely their two rescue dogs. After a couple of months, the new foster family decided to adopt Lexi! With other dogs to provide her support and guidance, Lexi is gaining confidence and trust.

The reduction in Lexi’s adoption fee helped offset her family’s cost of adopting a third dog.
