The Big House Sanctuary and Rehab: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This was an absolutely huge help! The summer influx of animals was overwhelming, but with this grant we were able to cover all planned spays and neuters for August and two boxes of parasite treatment. Many of the animals in August were no-fee adoptions (shy cats, feral cats, dogs with high needs) and we wouldn’t have been able to recoup those funds. This made it much easier and they were able to find incredible, understanding homes!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Pickle (first photo) was a Chihuahua mix who came to us through a backyard breeding situation. He was surrendered with multiple dogs. Unfortunately he had some behavioral issues, an undescended testicle, and a few other things that made not only his surgery more complex but also made it harder to find an adopter who could handle his needs.

Through this grant we had him fully vetted and parasite-treated and were able to find a family to work with him. They ended up falling in love and the rest is history! He still has difficulties but his new family accepts him as he is and is dedicated to his recovery.
