How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
At Animal Friends, our resident dogs benefit from daily enrichment activities. This allows them to engage in natural behaviors that provide mental stimulation and help develop problem-solving skills. By engaging their senses and offering healthy outlets for energy, enrichment helps alleviate boredom and stress for dogs in our shelter. Overall, enrichment improves our resident dogs’ quality of life while they wait for their new families and ultimately sets them up for success in their new homes.
One of the most frequently used enrichment tools in our shelter is the KONG toy. These durable toys are utilized daily by our care team to provide stimulating mealtime experiences. With over 300 dogs passing through our shelter each year, we need a steady supply of KONGs! Thanks to generous support from the Petfinder Foundation and KONG, we’ve been able to continue offering engaging enrichment experiences for our resident pups.

One of the pets who has been helped by this generous grant is Yogi (pictured)! He is a happy, loved boy here at Animal Friends, but unfortunately his life before coming here was difficult. Yogi came to the shelter through our Humane Investigation department as just a small puppy. Due to Yogi’s court case, he had no choice but to grow up in the shelter. Yogi is a high-energy boy who loves to play and especially loves enrichment (including his KONG toys!). During his time in the shelter, enrichment has been critical in Yogi’s healing journey.
At Animal Friends, Yogi has made so many friends, learned wonderful doggy manners, and has made great strides. Now, it’s finally time for this smart, affectionate boy to get to know a true home! Yogi is still here at Animal Friends waiting for his humans to find him. He would love to spend his time doing enrichment with a new family!
