Peace Love and Poms Rescue, Inc.: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Peace Love and Poms Rescue applied for an Emergency Medical Grant for Sweet Tart. He came to PLPR from the NYACC shelter after being surrendered in horrible shape. He was emaciated, anemic, and had a softball-sized tumor in his abdomen. Because of the funds from the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to cover the costs for Sweet Tart to be stabilized and have lifesaving surgery to remove the testicular tumor.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Sweet Tart had surgery to remove a softball-sized testicular tumor in March 2022. Pathology was unable to give any insight as to whether the tumor was cancerous or not despite several doctors investigating the sample.

However, this boy thrived after he recovered, gained weight, and was no longer anemic. Sweet Tart became playful and we sweet as can be.

Unfortunately, Sweet Tart was not adopted. On July 29, 2022, he had a follow-up with the vet for x-rays because we noticed he was tiring quickly and straining to have bowel movements. It was discovered that a baseball-sized tumor had grown on his prostate, causing him pain. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize Sweet Tart and end his suffering.

We are thankful he was able to have a happy and pain-free few months here at PLPR and be loved. Our hearts are broken that a simple neuter could have prevented all the pain this innocent boy endured and the heartbreak we suffered losing him to another tumor.
