Sleepy Hollow Acres Rescue for Animals (SHARA): Other Animals Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

SHARA used the 2024 Other Animals Grant to cover expenses for resident livestock, birds, water fowl, and rabbits, including food and supplements.

How many pets did this grant help?

This grant helped over 70 resident animals in 2024.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The grant was used to purchase feed for the residents at SHARA including chickens, ducks, rabbits, turkeys, quail, and pigeons during the third and fourth quarters of 2024. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation grant, SHARA was able to shift some of its energies away from fundraising to focus on adoption campaigns and community outreach, creating more opportunities for the animal residents to gain exposure in the hope that they will be adopted.

As of the grant award date, one quail (Stanley), one pigeon (Jaguar), and two resident rabbits (Joey and Cappuccino) have found their forever homes with loving families.

Also because of the funding, we were able to take in additional residents, including four ducks, two pigeons, and two cats. The birds are all still in quarantine and will be available for adoption on Petfinder.com by year’s end.

While the cats are not included in this grant, the funding we received allowed us to open up intake for two additional feline residents. The cats’ profile has been listed on Petfinder.com (named Tom and Jerry). We have included photos of the animals that were adopted as mentioned above.
