Morris Animal Refuge: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

In 2023, our organization faced challenges with increased lengths-of-stay and a decrease in adoptions, particularly for our large dogs. However, thanks to this grant, we were able to waive the adoption fees for four specific dogs: Sparky, Everly, Bradley, and DeeDee.

This initiative significantly contributed to finding forever homes for these animals. Notably, DeeDee, who had been at the shelter for a month, found a home just three days after the fee was waived. Sparky, with a five-week stay, was adopted within six days of the fee waiver, and Bradley, who had been at the shelter for three weeks, found a home two days after the fee was waived. Although Everly was initially adopted, she unfortunately was returned and is still in search of a loving home.

Overall, the grant played a pivotal role in reducing the lengths of stay and increasing adoptions for these large dogs, demonstrating its positive impact on our animals' well-being.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

In 2023, Sparky (first photo), a large dog with severe allergies and a persistent skin rash, faced challenges finding a home due to the required medication and weekly treatment baths.

This grant played a crucial role in Sparky’s journey. By waiving Sparky’s adoption fee, we facilitated her adoption and enabled her adopter to redirect the saved funds towards her specialized care.

This financial support not only increased Sparky’s chances of finding a forever home, but also ensured that the adopter could provide the necessary medical attention and treatment she needed.

Sparky’s story exemplifies how the grant not only aided in adoption but also directly contributed to the well-being of animals with specific medical needs, making a meaningful impact on their lives.
