Home Sweet Home Pet Rescue: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This medical grant was awarded to help with Berta's surgery to remove a mass from her hind end. As a result of this grant, we were able to have the mass removed. She also had a smaller growth on her neck that the vets found and recommended removing. It was also removed. The mass was sent out for histopathology and the results came back negative, so there is nothing further to worry about.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Berta came to us from a shelter where she had ended up after was found as a stray. She waited at the shelter for months as it filled to capacity. She was at risk of being euthanized because of her extended stay. We were able to find a foster home and save her just in time.

She had to be put in boarding until transport day to make room at the shelter. The caring and attentive boarding facility checked her out and found a lump on her rear end and let us know. It was positioned in a place that made it impossible for Berta to sit normally.

The lump was biopsied and the vet ultimately recommended removing it. While she waited for surgery in her foster home, another concerning lump was found on her neck.

Thanks to your support, the vet was able to remove both of these lumps. The histopathology report came back with no concerning findings. Berta is now happy, healthy, and ADOPTED! One of our previous adopters met her and fell in love, so she now has a dog brother (second photo) and five human siblings to keep her busy. She is such a happy girl.

We can’t thank you enough! You made saving her young life possible and she is going to enjoy every moment of it.
