Florence Area Humane Society: Play Pet Beds Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The P.L.A.Y. pet beds were well-received by our canines, and helped to calm them down after their time in the play yards. These 10 pet beds have already been used, washed, and re-used, as some of the canines who have used them have already been adopted! We think the beds have made a great improvement to their overall stay at the shelter, and add a bit of comfort to their lives!
How many pets did this grant help?
As they cycle through these, approximately 73.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
The P.L.A.Y. pet beds from the Petfinder Foundation arrived and were distributed quickly among the 10 lucky recipients. Among them was 1-year-old Frank (first photo, with his friend Beans), who’d come in as a stray and got to find comfort using the pet bed.
Frank, Kettle, and Beans used the new P.L.A.Y. beds and enjoyed hanging out together. You could easily see how much the dogs liked how cool the beds were, especially after coming in from being outside in our hot South Carolina weather.
Frank was adopted just three weeks later, and Beans was adopted shortly thereafter. Kettle (second photo) was transferred to the SPCA in Massachusetts to help reduce the overcrowding situation at the Florence Area Humane Society shelter, and while these dogs have each gone their own way, they had a short time at the shelter enjoying their cool pet beds together.
The beds will now be used by other lucky dogs, hopefully enjoying them just as much, and helping them stay calm during their stay at the shelter.
