Florence Area Humane Society: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant allowed us to purchase 16 raised platforms for our canine population, allowing them to no longer have to sleep on a concrete floor. These platforms elevate the dog off the ground, reducing exposure to cold, dampness, and dirt. This, in turn, promotes better joint and muscle health, reduces stress and anxiety, and provides a more home-like environment, enhancing the chances of the canine being adopted.
Although just 16 beds were purchased to stay within the boundaries of the grant, there are others who will benefit from this enhanced environment as well. This year, 16 canines will be helped in this way, but as they are adopted, the next dog who gets this accommodation will also benefit. With the average number of days (56) a dog stays at the shelter, these 16 beds will help almost 100 dogs in the coming year!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Cressida Cowper (first photo) found herself at our shelter when Animal Control picked her up as a stray in July 2024. Since coming here, she has slept on a concrete floor with just a blanket put down for her. Now she has a pallet bed and every time a new guest comes to the shelter, she runs out and sits on it, so proud to show off her new bed (second photo)!
Cressida is a spunky and playful girl who is great with everyone. She is just waiting for her forever family! She is available for adoption here.
