Longmont Humane Society: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant covered almost all of the $1,100 cost of a complex orthopedic surgery for George, a cat who suffered a right humeral fracture from a gunshot wound. He needed a specialized surgical procedure, which included the removal of buckshot and the placement of a plate to stabilize his fractured arm. The surgery has been successfully completed, and George is now in recovery. His adoption fee did not even come close to covering the expense of his care, making this grant essential for his recovery.

Specifically, the funds were used to reimburse:

Surgical costs: The specialized orthopedic surgeon's fee, anesthesia, and surgical supplies.

Implant costs: The bone plate and pins used for the fracture repair.

Postoperative care: Medications for pain relief and infection prevention, as well as necessary recheck appointments and radiographs to monitor bone healing.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The primary outcome of this grant was George’s full recovery and successful adoption into a loving, permanent home.

The funds directly enabled the surgery and subsequent follow-up care, ensuring he retained full function of his limb. Without this surgical intervention, George would not have been able to keep his leg, significantly reducing his quality of life and adoptability.

We are proud to report that, after extensive time healing in a loving foster home, George was adopted!
