Lancaster SPCA: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant was an enhancement to our Canine Behaviorist program, which was new in 2025. Our behaviorist has emphasized to us the importance of providing enrichment items like KONGs to help the dogs feel calmer and more at ease. Licking and chewing are natural, soothing behaviors that can make a big difference in a high-stress environment. These toys can be refilled and reused again and again! The toys were received in July, so we project that 749 animals will benefit, which is half of 2024 dog intake numbers.

How many pets did this grant help?

749

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The animals pictured are Kallie, Moscow, and Annabelle. Kallie, the grey girl in the kennel (first photo), has finished up heartworm treatment and transferred to our partner Rebound Hounds. She will be ready for adoption soon.

Moscow, the brown and white boy (second photo), was adopted locally shortly after this picture was taken! Annabelle is the gray girl doing her quality inspection (third photo). She just went to Buddy and Friends in Massachusetts.
