Unicoi County Animal Shelter: Disaster Response and Recovery Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We were completely devastated by Hurricane Helene. This grant helped our organization by providing funds to clean up the waste water that was in our animal shelter. We were able to hire an architect to draw plans for our new shelter. We are working with structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and contractors now to start the rebuild as soon as possible. We are so grateful for this grant and to the Petfinder Foundation for always supporting us.
How many pets did this grant help?
100
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Thanks to this grant, we were able to clean the facility with a biohazard company. We were able to put pop-up kennels inside until construction starts.
We had two dogs who came to us through a court case: Paul (first photo) and Dean (second photo). We were able to house both dogs in our facility with no power or water. Volunteers brought buckets of water daily. We were able to purchase patio heaters to keep the dogs warm and comfortable inside.
Just last month, Paul found his forever home and last week (third photo), Dean found his home (fourth photo). This wouldn’t have been possible if it were not for the support of this grant and all of our other support.
