How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The dogs at our shelter love their KONG toys, which we fill with peanut butter or canned dog food and freeze. The main difference we noted after receiving the KONG toys was that the doghouses and fences of our outside pens were chewed on considerably less. All the dogs were calmer and were spending their time chewing on the KONGs instead of destroying property. This was a win for both the dogs and the staff.

One of the recipients of the KONG toys is our long-term resident, Misty. She has now been at the shelter for three years, ever since she was a puppy.
She is a happy girl who loves people and enjoys playing with other dogs (although she is not good with small dogs or cats). She is cautious and shy around new people at first, but then is affectionate and playful.
And she loves her KONG! It has definitely helped with her anxiety level, and she is more settled when she has her KONG. Her favorite addition to it is peanut butter.
For Misty, her KONG helps her manage the stress of living in an animal shelter. We are still hoping that one day the perfect person will come take Misty to her forever home.
