Tennessee Dachshund Rescue: Bar Dog Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Bar Dog Operation Grant allowed us to purchase 3.5 boxes (six-packs) of Simparica Trio heartworm and flea prevention for our foster dogs. Heartworm prevention in southern states is imperative to ensuring the long-term health of the dogs; all of our fosters are on monthly preventatives while in foster care and adopters are required to maintain prevention upon adoption.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Peanut is a long-term resident of Tennessee Dachshund Rescue due to his personality quirks. Peanut lives in Memphis, TN, which experiences a high level of heartworm disease in the community annually (100+ cases per vet clinic).

Peanut’s favorite thing to do is play outside and patrol the fence for squirrels and other rodents, which puts him at a higher risk for heartworm disease.

This grant allowed Peanut to receive a six-month supply of heartworm prevention instead of having to go to the clinic monthly. Peanut is still available for adoption.

You can meet Peanut here.
