Great Dane Rescue of Southeast Texas: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We rescue, rehab, and rehome Great Danes of all ages. Great Danes LOVE to chew, so this toy grant has been amazing and has allowed GDRST to give each Dane a Kong toy, whether for crate-training, playing, or just plain chewing. You are enriching each Great Dane with this toy grant and we appreciate you for it.

Charlotte was badly abused and was picked up by our local shelter. She had to go to an experienced, Dane-savvy owner who understood the breed as well as dog behaviors.
Charlotte knew absolutely nothing about treats, toys, beds, etc. When she was first introduced to the toy box, she chose a Kong from a previous foster dog. She loved the Kong (Wubba), and when it squeaked, her personality came out.
She then found the Kong bone and the other long, red Kong. In fact, she picked out her new Kong when the box arrived! Charlotte is loving her Kong toys and loves squeaking the Wubba. The long, red Kong is another favorite of hers. She also loves to “toss” the Kong bone and the red one up in the air — sometimes she catches them, but most of the time, we all have to duck!
This process with Charlotte started on April 25, 2023, and continues today. The Kong toys have made a difference because she knows those belong to her and she can chew, throw, or squeak to her heart’s delight. This is something this 2-year-old, 135-lb. girl never had until she came into rescue.
Thank you again for these toys — they enrich these dogs’ lives.
