Hill Country SPCA: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant, totaling $3,800, made a significant impact on our shelter's mission to find forever homes for animals in need. By waiving adoption fees for our long-term residents, we were able to facilitate the adoption of 14 dogs and 10 cats who had previously faced challenges in finding placement.

This success not only provided loving homes for these animals, but also opened up space in our shelter, allowing us to focus resources on other animals in need.

The grant's impact extends beyond numbers, as each adoption represents a life transformed and a family enriched. We are immensely grateful for the support of the Petfinder Foundation in helping us achieve this success.

How many pets did this grant help?

In a little under two months, we were able to get 14 dogs and 10 cats adopted!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One particularly heartwarming success story resulting from the this grant involved Ebony (first photo), a cat who had become a cherished resident at our shelter when she lived here for more than a year.

When her adoption fee was waived thanks to the grant, it caught the attention of a compassionate family (second photo). Ebony was facing challenges adjusting to her new home, so the family reached out to us for guidance.

Recognizing Ebony’s need for companionship, we suggested fostering Alek (third photo), another long-term resident whose adoption fee had also been waived.

In just one week, the transformative power of companionship became evident as Ebony began to emerge from her shell, with Alek serving as her steadfast companion (fourth photo). The family, moved by the bond between the two feline friends, decided to make Alek a permanent member of their household, further demonstrating the grant’s profound impact on both the animals and the families they touch.
