Second Chance Animal Services: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Grant funds were used to purchase an assortment of chew toys and puzzle feeders. Both types of toys provide mental stimulation, reduce stress, prevent boredom, provide physical exercise, and often improve behavior by changing barking and aggression with redirected behaviors. Not only does enrichment calm the dogs down, it can often help them to become more adoptable.

The new enrichment toys have been so helpful both outside in the play yards and during kennel time.

How many pets did this grant help?

Approximately 700 dogs move through the shelter in a year.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Young and energetic Beba can often find herself a bit bored during kennel time. She LOVES to chew on bones and can keep herself busy chewing and playing with her new chew toys. She is a complete sweetheart who is learning to turn her boredom into fun play time when in her kennel. Beba currently awaits her forever home.

You can meet Beba here.
