Spring Branch Rescue: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

With the influx of puppies in Houston and the surrounding areas, Spring Branch Rescue took in seven to eight litters of puppies and most of their mamas. In receiving this grant, we were able to provide our fosters with the necessary tools to help grow their foster pups and prepare them for adoption.

The dog enrichment grant was insurmountable in helping our pups grow and learn, for example, by using slow feeders to assist them in their natural food-finding instincts. Other areas that this grant provided were to promote their needs to still act like dogs, but without unwanted behaviors such as chewing, and to reduce their anxieties. Our puppies benefited greatly from the Petfinder Foundation’s Dog Enrichment Grant and improved their lives to be become a better fit for their new forever homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Buggy was part of our weiner-puppy litter that was in a local shelter. The pups had been found without their mama and all were being bottle-fed.

The local shelter called Spring Branch Rescue desperate to get them out of the shelter so that they would have a chance to live. We were able to find a wonderful foster home that was able to take them all in. Buggy and his siblings have all since been adopted.
