Second Chance Pets: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Second Chance Pets applied for a Petfinder Foundation Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant to help us find a forever home for Lillie, a sweet 12-year-old special-needs poodle who sadly had some rough times in her past.

Finding quality adoptive homes for senior pets is always more of a challenge, and it was especially so in Lillie’s case, as she has some sight and hearing impairment along with lacking confidence and being anxious in new places.

We were committed to giving Lillie the medical care and socialization she needed to be adoptable, and having the added support of the Petfinder Foundation to help incentivize potential adopters was very much appreciated.

SCP is delighted to share the news that, after close to 1,200 views on Petfinder with no applications, our shy senior pup Lillie has found her forever home!

She was adopted by a kind older lady (by sweet coincidence, also named Lillie) who loves senior dogs. She was smitten with Lillie as soon as they met and was very grateful to find out about the Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant, which covered Lillie’s adoption fee and will help offset the cost of her future veterinary care.

Just four days after opening her heart and home to Lillie, her happy new mom Lillie shared this sweet update to finalize the adoption:

“Lillie is a sweetheart! She wandered the house and catio looking for her foster mom for a couple of days but has settled down and follows me or lies close to my feet on her bed.

“My crew has accepted her as part of the family, especially Jake, my Maltese. He has become her official guide dog! She loves exploring the yard and playing with her hide-a-treat puzzle. She eats well and loves her bacon treats. She definitely is food-motivated! She is a perfect fit and has a home until she or I cross over the bridge.”
