Happy Tails Adoption Center: No Fee/Low Fee All Love Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
After receiving this grant in March, we used it to cover adoption fees for all animals adopted from April 1 through May 31. This allowed us to adopt out 11 cats and 25 dogs! The free adoptions used $3,380.00 and we used the remaining $620 to provide free spay and neuter services to animals in our community whose owners could not afford the surgeries otherwise.
The large increase in adoptions during this time allowed us to intake dogs and cats at a faster rate than we would normally be able to achieve in this typically slower season for our facility. The ability to serve our community decreased the unwanted litters of puppies and kittens that would likely end up in our care at a later date.
The $4,000 grant we received made a huge impact all the way around and we are beyond grateful to have been chosen for it.

As I sit and think back on all the amazing adoptions we witnessed in our facility, one sticks out more than the others. Kai (first photo) had been in our facility for more than 600 days and adopted twice. He was removed by the police the first time after the adopters decided they didn’t want to care for him anymore, and brought back the second time because of a relationship split.
Kai is the definition of a “good dog.” He is well-behaved, knows commands, and just wanted a home to call his own.
Right before closing one evening, a couple walked in and wanted to see the dogs. The man saw Kai and instantly fell in love. We got Kai out and brought him into the lobby, where the man and Kai laid on the floor cuddling while the girlfriend filled out the paperwork to finalize the adoption (second photo). All of the staff cried when they left, and we still tear up thinking about our sweet Kai boy.
