Meow and Forever: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The 2026 Cat Enrichment Grant significantly improved the quality of life for the cats in our foster-based rescue program. Because we are a newly established nonprofit rescue, our resources are often directed toward essential veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, food, and litter. This grant allowed us to provide enrichment items that might otherwise have been out of reach.

The enrichment supplies helped reduce stress, encourage play, promote exercise, and support healthy socialization for cats and kittens in foster care. Interactive toys, scratching surfaces, climbing opportunities, and comfort items gave our cats outlets for natural feline behaviors while helping them build confidence and adapt to home environments.

These improvements not only enhanced the daily lives of the cats in our care but also helped prepare them for successful adoption by making them more comfortable, social, and well-adjusted companions. The grant has had a meaningful impact on both our organization and the cats we serve.

How many pets did this grant help?

We estimate that the enrichment items purchased through this grant will directly benefit approximately 20 cats and kittens during the 2026 calendar year. Because our rescue operates through foster homes, enrichment supplies are continually reused as cats are adopted and new cats enter our program, allowing the grant's impact to extend well beyond the initial recipients.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One cat who greatly benefited from the enrichment items provided through this grant was Dwight (first photo), a sweet and affectionate young cat who came into our rescue needing time to grow, socialize, and prepare for adoption.

The enrichment supplies gave Dwight opportunities for play, exploration, and positive interaction while he was living in foster care. He especially enjoyed interactive toys and climbing spaces, which helped keep him mentally stimulated and physically active. These experiences helped build his confidence and allowed his playful, loving personality to shine.

As Dwight became more comfortable, he developed into a highly social cat who sought affection, enjoyed snuggles, and interacted positively with both people and other pets. The enrichment he received played an important role in helping him become a well-adjusted companion ready for a forever home.

In addition to Dwight, other cats in our program, including Naomi, Georgia, Pumpkin, and Marsellus Wallace, also benefited from the enrichment resources provided by this grant. These items helped create a more engaging and less stressful foster environment, supporting successful adoption outcomes and improving overall welfare for the cats in our care.

Dwight has since been adopted/has a pending adoption, demonstrating the positive impact that enrichment can have on a cat’s confidence, behavior, and adoptability.

The featured cats referenced in this report are currently pending adoption.
