Abandoned Animal Rescue: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Because all our adoptable dogs stay with us until they are adopted, AAR’s dog handlers are passionate about dog enrichment; they use our outdoor yards and paths twice daily for exercising, leash-training walks, and conducting multi-dog playgroups. When heavy rains severely damaged a large portion of our exercise yards, the Petfinder Foundation Dog Enrichment Grant helped us repair the damage and restore the exercise yards and walking paths to their former safe and secure status.

Even though most of AAR’s dogs get adopted within a reasonable time, large dogs often wait longer for their forever families. Time outdoors, exercising and playing, is crucial to their physical and mental well-being.

Grayson (first photo) is a vibrant and cheerful boy full of energy! He adores the company of other dogs and loves playgroups. Despite a rough start — he was abandoned as a puppy — Grayson has remained resilient and unwavering in his love for people. And after 139 days, Grayson is finally in his forever home (second photo).

Jake (third and fourth photos, and with Grayson in the fifth photo) is a charming, friendly boy who’s searching for his forever family; he has been at AAR for over 130 days. This playful and intelligent sweetheart thrives on playtime with other dogs, loves a good treat, and is eager to learn new tricks. He loves playing in the water. His captivating personality and infectious joy are sure to win you over. You can meet Jake here.

Yadi, a friendly and happy dog (sixth photo), seeks his forever family; he’s been at the shelter for 433 days. He loves being outside; he is crate-trained, calm indoors, and great with children. He is very trainable and knows the commands sit, shake, and down. He easily adapted to the shelter environment and formed bonds with volunteers. Yadi may be the perfect companion for those who want a loving, smart, and adaptable dog.
