AniMeals: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

AniMeals used this senior pet grant from the Petfinder Foundation to elevate Tawn's story and pet profile. We increased 15-year-old Tawn's presence on social media and used language to highlight that his medical care and adoption fee were covered under the grant.

We received the check in the mail on July 15 and Tawn was officially adopted on Aug. 8 after being with us for over 200 days. A few days before Tawn went home, we used some of the grant money to adjust his hyperthyroid and pain medications so he could enjoy his new home without pending veterinary visits.

Tawn's new companion, Shelbie, said that she felt supported and more confident about adopting a senior cat because of the funds available to help with Tawn's continued care.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Tawn has had quite the journey with AniMeals. He was originally abandoned outside of our facility in early January 2024, and staff quickly whisked him into AniMeals’ intensive care unit. Our ICU technicians noticed that he seemed to be in a lot of pain and was losing weight and drinking a ton of water. Animal Blessings Pet Hospital diagnosed dear 15-year-old Tawn with hyperthyroidism and a slipped disk.

Tawn’s hyperthyroidism is now treated with a transdermal medical cream in his ear twice a day, and he started taking his pain-management medication like a champ. We quickly got to see just how amazing and resilient he is.

Tawn is such a gentle and loving feline with a calming personality. We know he will be a wonderful addition to his new home. Thank you so much, Shelbie, for adopting this 15-year-old-senior! And don’t worry, folks! We sent this pompom-ball fanatic home with plenty of sparkly toys!
