APET Animal Shelter: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed us to block in part of an old patio at our shelter to make it into a Catio. It was already screened on two sides, with a half door, and we were able to purchase the remainder of the wood, finishing parts, and small-gauge wire fencing to screen off and enclose the last open side. We then purchased some climbing items and several cat trees and scratching posts to fill in the inside.

This is going to help our organization in two ways: The first, of course, is to help keep shelter kitties stimulated and happy. But the second way is, it will allow potential adopters to come out and watch some of the kitties at play, thus improving adoption rates. Everyone knows playful kitties are wanted by everyone! Thanks again, Petfinder Foundation!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This catio has already helped one of our most active kitties: a silver-grey tabby named Shimmer who is only about 5 months old and loves, loves, loves to play. She is a busy girl. She is still available for adoption, but anyone watching her play on the catio will take her in an instant.

You can meet Shimmer here.
