The financial costs of Bailey's emergency procedure were substantial, and this grant was invaluable in helping us recover the funds expended to save her life. The funding from this grant served as reimbursement for the costs of Bailey’s amputation surgery, which was necessary to provide her with a chance for a pain-free and happy life.

This grant not only changed Bailey's life, but it also helped our organization continue to respond swiftly to medical emergencies, even with limited resources. Without this support, providing lifesaving care to dogs like Bailey would be much more difficult.

Bailey, a Great Pyrenees mix, arrived at our shelter on Dec. 20, 2024, displaying extraordinary sweetness and a calm, well-mannered demeanor despite the severe injury she had suffered.

Upon arrival, we immediately identified a significant open wound on her right front leg. Upon further examination, it was clear that Bailey had experienced a traumatic injury resulting in the complete shattering of both her ulna and radius, with no structural bone attachment. Only the epithelial tissue held her forearm together from the dorsal side.

After thorough consultation with our veterinary team, it was determined that amputation was the only viable option to save Bailey from further pain, infection, and damage. The amputation surgery was performed immediately to prevent any additional harm, as delaying the procedure would have risked her overall health and well-being.

The success of Bailey’s surgery exceeded our expectations, and she recovered well in our care surrounded by compassion and expert medical attention. Once healed, she was transferred to one of our trusted northern rescue partners, where her resilience and sweet spirit quickly caught the attention of an adopter. Today, Bailey is thriving in her forever home—running, playing, and living the joyful life every dog deserves.
