Universal City Animal Care and Control: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Thanks to the generous grant of $139 worth of Kong toys, our shelter has been able to provide enrichment and mental stimulation to the dogs in our care. These toys have been extremely valuable for reducing stress, promoting healthy behavior, and keeping the animals engaged during their time at our shelter. Many of the dogs have shown reduced anxiety after having consistent access to these toys. This grant has helped us enhance the overall well-being of the dogs, making their stays more comfortable and preparing them for successful adoptions.

One of the dogs who greatly benefited from the Kong toys was Bob, a high-energy shepherd mix (first and second photos). Bob came to our shelter with high anxiety and restlessness, and definitely struggled to settle in his kennel. The Kong toys, which we filled with treats and Kong fillings, gave him a healthy outlet for his energy. The Kong helped him focus on playing and chewing, which eased his anxiety and kept him engaged. Over time, Bob became calmer and more manageable, which helped him show his true, lovable personality to potential adopters.
During our recent Empty the Shelters event, Bob found his forever home. His new family loved his friendly demeanor and playful nature, which we were able to finally see with the help of these toys. This grant played a big role in Bob’s journey here at our facility, and we are so happy he found his forever home!
