RSQ: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Emergency Medical Grant has helped us cover the medical expenses and care for our cat Eleanor, who has a host of severe allergies. The expenses for her care have included a custom diet of pure rabbit, ongoing immunotherapy, and regular check-ups.

Eleanor's condition has improved dramatically! She has gone to a foster home, and that was only possible thanks to the care she has received, and that the Petfinder Foundation helped us to provide.

Eleanor joined us on May 3, 2023. She was itchy and it quickly became apparent that she was grappling with severe health challenges. In response to her symptoms, last November we had comprehensive bloodwork done as well as a specialized test designed to identify specific food and environmental intolerances. The tests revealed that Eleanor has over 150 moderate to severe allergies.

Eleanor is undergoing immunotherapy and adhering to a specialized diet designed to mitigate the impact of her extensive allergies. Despite the diligent care, Eleanor continues to experience intermittent episodes of digestive discomfort and persistent scratching. She’s not out of the woods yet.

The first photo shows Eleanor three months ago, with soreness and hair missing all over. The next four show Eleanor in her foster home. She’s gone through an absolute transformation in a short period of time.

Eleanor has a foster parent who is dedicated to giving Eleanor the attention she craves, as well as coordination with our rescue for Eleanor’s ongoing care.

While Eleanor isn’t completely healed just yet, she’s come a long way. As her health continues to improve, we will add Eleanor to Petfinder for adoption.
