Fluvanna SPCA: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We purchased supplies for volunteers who want to take dogs on field trips: tote bags with the logo of the shelter that include a leash, an Adopt Me harness, a treat pouch with treats and poop bags, a portable water bowl, an Adopt Me bandana, and toys.

We are in the process of preparing educational materials for volunteers with tips for safety. We advertised this grant on social media, inviting the community to volunteer with field trips and encouraging them by telling them all supplies would be provided. This has allowed dogs to wear the items with the shelter's logo so the community knows the dogs are available for adoption.

We are a small shelter, but we want to keep expanding our field trip program to increase the shelter's visibility and provide more enrichment to our dogs.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Gruntilda is a beautiful hound who loves to explore nature. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get to do much of that at the shelter.

One of our volunteers decided to take her for a day out to a big hiking park (first photo). All the supplies were given to the volunteer: a bag with the logo of the shelter, treat pouch with treats, a bandana, an Adopt Me harness, a Petfinder leash, a toy, poop bags, and a portable water bowl.

We learned Gruntilda is perfect in the car and is an amazing hiking companion. Gruntilda is still hoping for her forever family, but we learned a lot about her from this experience, and we hope someone falls in love with her soon.

You can meet Gruntilda here.
