Pets Bring Joy: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks to our receipt of a 2022 Kia Pet Adoption grant, Pets Bring Joy has been able to offer reduced-fee adoptions to many cats in our care who struggled – or would have struggled – to find loving homes.

Our organization puts a high priority on rescuing shy and senior animals, many with long-term medical conditions that put them at risk of euthanasia in public shelters. For these same reasons, these cats often struggle to find their forever homes once they enter our care, which means that we are unable to pull new animals from shelters and place them in our foster network as quickly and as urgently as we would like to do.

Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation and Kia’s funding, which generously exceeded our original grant request, we are now going to be able to offer reduced adoption fees for a total of 21 cats in our care, offering significant financial incentives to potential adopters who may now choose to take a chance on an older or special-needs pet.

We have already made use of this grant to secure the adoptions of 10 such animals in our care, finding them loving, permanent homes while opening up new spaces in our foster network for new, needy rescues. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation for supporting our lifesaving mission!

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Kiki and Koda (first photo) are a bonded pair who had been with us at PBJ since February 2021. They were incredibly shy and hesitant to be around people, so they endured an extremely long wait for a forever home in foster care. However, when we offered reduced-fee adoptions for them, they soon found a wonderful permanent home with a family who will nurture them and help them blossom into the loving, social cats they are destined to be (second photo).

Darling, fluffy white furballs Aspen and Luna (third photo) came to us in January 2022, only to be immediately diagnosed with ringworm. This usually results in a very long wait for a forever home as we conduct their treatment in foster care, but thanks to reduced-fee adoptions, we were able to find them a wonderful forever family where they will finish their medical treatment together with support from our team!

Lastly, Capi, Rona, and Zee (fourth photo) were abandoned as young cats and found themselves at a shelter in rural Virginia. They were extremely shy and looked over multiple times as adopters sought more outgoing and people-oriented cats. PBJ knew their personalities might make them hard to place, but did not want them to languish in a cage at the shelter, so we took them in immediately. This trio was adopted by their amazing foster family with a reduced fee made possible by our Petfinder Foundation Kia Adoption Grant.

Thanks for helping us secure so many happy endings for these wonderful animals!
