Shady's Paw Animal Rescue: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant will cover Ghost's adoption fee, food, and medical expenses, including Iams Adult Health wet and dry treats, Iams urinary dry food, and office-visit fees. We did not want her to be adopted and then require specialized care, with the adopter spending a lot on medical fees shortly after adopting her. However, if we can cover costs as funds allow to give her a permanent home where she can peacefully live out her days, it will be worth it for her well-being.

This grant helped Ghost find a foster-to-adopt situation. She is currently seeing if the house she is in is her forever home. With the grant, Ghost's potential adopter can have a little more peace of mind should a medical emergency come up. Any time you are adopting a senior pet with noted medical concerns, you are taking on the potential for medical expenses, something that this grant helped to alleviate a little bit for Ghost.

How many pets did this grant help?

1

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ghost is a long-haired 11-year-old female cat who, after a recent vet visit, was potentially going to be put into fospice until we discovered this grant. The vet told us that she could live one year, five years, or longer, but could not give a more specific guarantee.

Ghost has not been officially adopted yet. She is currently in a foster-to-adopt situation, made possible by the grant. The adopter wanted to apply the rule of three, giving her three weeks to decompress and adjust to her surroundings before officially adopting her, to ensure she was a good fit and happy in the home.

The adopter, taking in Ghost’s age, wanted her to be happy in her later years. With the grant, she was able to have a little peace of mind and savings for Ghost should any medical emergencies arise. Ghost is such a calm, sweet soul that we are hoping this placement works out!
