Underdog Animal Rescue: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This funding supported Teddy Swims' care, but it also enabled us to take in over 120 dogs since then, and provide for another dog with extensive medical needs.
Our budget for medical expenses was spread thin after Teddy Swims' veterinary bills were paid. The gift from the Petfinder Foundation allowed us to use our existing budget with Maggie, another foster dog who was taken in after Teddy Swims. Her care also cost thousands of dollars, as she required double ear ablation surgery.
Similarly, she has made a full recovery and is now waiting for the right adopter.
All of our dogs are in need of rescue, but the more support we receive, the more dogs we can take in with a range of needs. The heart of our mission is to extend our care for more than just one type of dog. We care for all dogs.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
This grant was critical to help a dog in our foster care receive the medical services he needed to prepare for adoption. Teddy Swims had pancreatitis, pneumonia, and a dental infection. While these are all treatable illnesses, between this care and the standard procedures Underdog Animal Rescue invests in for all dogs joining our organization (vaccinations, spay/neuter, and microchipping), Swims was accruing quite the bill at our veterinarian.
The generous gift we received from the Petfinder Foundation covered much of Teddy Swims’ veterinary expenses. We typically spend less than $350 on procedures to prepare dogs for adoption. Swims’ veterinary care totaled over $3,000. The grant from the Petfinder Foundation enabled us to support Swims and connect him with the services he needed to thrive.
Today, Swims is fully recovered from his ailments and is awaiting the perfect adopter.
