P.A.C.K (People for Animal Care and Kindness): Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We are extremely thankful for the grant we were gifted from the Petfinder Foundation. With your kindness, we were able to buy brand new calming beds, along with Woof Pupsicles and Kongs. These kinds of enrichment supplies are crucial in the decompression of our fosters, helping prepare them for their forever homes. When fosters enter rescue, we know they're safe, but they don’t. Calming beds and enrichment toys offer them the support they need to realize that there are no more bad days ahead.
Of the five rescues who received these enrichment supplies, one has already found her forever home. Our latest rescue to receive the enrichment supplies, Frankie, is still on medical hold, but he has all the support he needs to be ready for his forever home soon.
How many pets did this grant help?
This grant helped provide enrichment supplies to five of our fosters in 2025 (the grant was received in October 2025).
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Sid, a 2-year-old pittie mix (first two photos), had his five minutes of Facebook fame after he was spotted running loose and alone for quite some time in Puyallup.
While many people tried to help rescue him, he was pretty scared of all the attention. It was the kindness of a local senior-living facility and all the residents leaving out treats that lead him to be rescued and brought to a local shelter.
Sid was shutting down quickly in the shelter, though; it was too loud, too fast. We were called and we jumped at the chance to bring him into our PACK. Sid is still looking for his forever family. Meet Sid here.
Sissu (See-Sue), a 7-month old shepherd mix (photos 3 and 4), has made quite the long trip to find her forever home. Sissu was rescued by a Peace Corps volunteer as a very tiny puppy. She was found dying on the side of the road after being attacked by other feral strays in Albania. Her rescuer scooped her up and found her veterinary care, but also knew she couldn’t leave her in Albania, where the rescues are full and the adoption failure rate is 90%.
Sissu made a full recovery from her injuries and that’s when PACK was contacted asking for help to continue with rescue efforts once she was brought over to the states. We aren’t usually involved with out-of-country rescues, but Sissu was flying into Pierce County in Washington state, and we just couldn’t say no to those big puppy eyes and fluffy ears!
Sissu has no lingering side effects from her injuries and she is ready to settle into her forever home here in the United States. We are still giving Sissu some time to decompress, so she is not listed as adoptable on Petfinder just yet.
