Underdog Pet Rescue of Wisconsin: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant helped us complete our play yard and provide enrichment for dogs who are part of our adoption program. We were able to get a fence donated to keep animals safe during the days they stay at our Underdog Vet Clinic. A community supporter provided the draining turf to make the space comfortable. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation, we now have enrichment opportunities (agility equipment) for pets who are stressed in the kennel during a brief stay at our clinic from their foster home, comfortable and safe Kuranda beds, and a poop-bag station to keep our yard sanitary.
Foster parents are also able to utilize the equipment and space for meet-and-greets with adopters, for private playtimes, and for training. This will help hundreds of dogs each year.
How many pets did this grant help?
500
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Gilbert was a heartworm-positive dog who required treatment once he became an Underdog foster pet. He also suffered from anxiety in a kennel. He was able to spend calm time utilizing a Kuranda bed and when he recovered, some enrichment time during a stay at our clinic after his treatment recovery time was up. He was much less stressed spending time in the play yard with staff than being in a cage, which he found overwhelming and stressful.
