St. Francis Animal Shelter: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed us to purchase items for our dogs that we did not necessarily need, but wanted because they would help improve the stay for our canine residents. Water play will enable the dogs to stay cooler in the summer heat and have fun doing it. Water play is also a neat thing to showcase for potential adopters. New toys and snuffle mats will provide new enrichment opportunities for our canine guests. These new items will replace old and worn out toys.

How many pets did this grant help?

50

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Maya (first and second photos) came to us as a 10-month-old mama to three healthy and beautiful puppies who were only four days old. She was still a puppy herself, but we didn’t have any rope toys in good condition for her to play with. But then, thanks to this grant, we were able to give her one and, whoa, did she love it! Maya has had a young lady come in to visit her since she came in with her pups. They love playing with the rope toys together and I am happy to say that Maya now has her own furever home!

Another dog, who is still with us, is Ace (third and fourth photos). He is an XXL pupper who didn’t have many toys his size to play with. Thanks to this grant, we were able to purchase some XL Kongs for this big guy! He is in hog heaven with his new toys. You can meet Ace here.
