Pawnee County Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant helped PCHS get several long-term cats and dogs into their new homes this year! We have had three black cats, two of whom were long-term residents, and three more long-term resident cats adopted. We had one long-term resident dog and one special-needs dogs adopted as well. The cats' adoption fees were waived and the dogs' adoption fees were reduced to $50.

Gummie (first and second photos) is a younger border collie mix who came from a bad situation. His former owner was likely abusive and Gummie spent the first year of his life on a chain. He was poorly socialized and fear-aggressive towards most men. He was at the shelter for over a year and a half.
Thanks to a foster, and routine at the shelter, he became more socialized and used to men. He had been on several home visits for adoption, but none of them worked out until late October.
Gummie finally found a patient adopter who understood his breed and history and was willing to take it slow with him to earn his trust. Gummie now lives with a man and his wife and three daughters. We hear Gummie is doing very well and is a very well-behaved dog!
