Tri-Lakes Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The 2024 Kia Pet Adoption Grant has been an amazing success for so many of our long-term resident dogs and cats. With the $4,000 grant, we were able to reduce adoption fees for three consecutive months, which greatly increased foot traffic to the shelter. This even helped adopt out animals who weren’t discounted, since so many families visited!

We are so happy to report that this grant resulted in 49 animals finding loving homes -- and 14 of those pets had been with us for more than a year! The reduced fees increased our adoption rates, allowing us to provide a better quality of life for the animals and manage our resources more efficiently.

Additionally, the grant helped us engage with the community so much, we gained five regular volunteers who hadn’t been aware of our shelter prior to these discount events. The reduced-free promotion greatly raised awareness about pet adoption and the importance of responsible pet ownership. The support from the Petfinder Foundation and Kia has been invaluable in achieving our mission of finding homes for all animals in our care and has had a lasting positive effect on both our organization and the community.

We are overjoyed to share the heartwarming news that Denali, a beautiful black Lab, has finally found his forever home.

Denali (first photo) came to Tri-Lakes Humane Society in June of 2022, after being surrendered with his three brothers from very bad conditions. Upon arrival, Denali was incredibly shy and timid due to the difficult circumstances he had endured. Over the months, our dedicated team worked tirelessly to provide him with the care, love, and patience he needed to come out of his shell. Watching his transformation has been nothing short of miraculous; he went from a frightened and withdrawn pup to a dog ready to give and receive love.

The adoption of Denali marks a significant milestone for our shelter and is a testament to the power of compassion and perseverance. His new family has not only given him a second chance but has also fulfilled a long-held dream of ours to see him thrive in a loving home.

This success story, made possible the Petfinder Foundation and the Kia grant, is a reminder of why we do what we do. Denali’s journey from a scared, abandoned dog to a cherished family member inspires us and fuels our commitment to helping more animals like him. We are immensely grateful for this happy ending and look forward to many more like it.

We are also thrilled to announce the adoption of Elvira (second photo), a cutie foxhound mix. This girl is a resilient and loving dog who had been with us since December of 2021. Elvira was brought to Tri-Lakes Humane Society by the Sheriff’s department as a stray since our county does not have a dedicated animal control facility. Despite the lack of state or local funding, our shelter took Elvira in, determined to provide her with the care and love she deserved.

After over two years in our care, Elvira has finally found a forever home where she can experience the love and security she needs. This joyous adoption is a testament to our commitment to every animal in need and the support we receive from our community. We are deeply grateful to the Petfinder Foundation and the Kia Pet Adoption Grant for the role they played in giving this sweet girl a furever home.
