Oregon Dog Rescue is the lucky recipient of the 2025 Kia Pet Adoption Grant! Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation and Kia America, dogs like Dutton can have their adoption fees drastically reduced, resulting in one less barrier to finding their forever homes. At Oregon Dog Rescue, adoption fees help cover the ever-increasing costs of rehabilitating dogs that come into our care; however, excellent pet owners are not always able to afford the many upfront expenses of welcoming a new dog into their home. For dogs like Dutton who have been in and out of the shelter system for multiple rounds, time is of the essence, and that is something that our friends at the Petfinder Foundation and Kia America understand.

Dutton (photos 1-3), a stunning tri-colored Australian shepherd mix, initially arrived at Oregon Dog Rescue in the winter of 2022 through a rescue partner who assists dogs in need coming from eastern Oregon. He was a young puppy, eager-eyed and excited to find his forever home. He was adopted right away, but unfortunately for Dutton, the adoption wasn’t a forever match. Long story short, after a caring individual tried to find Dutton a successful home on their own, he returned back to Oregon Dog Rescue’s care in January of 2025. He was very popular among the shelter staff and adored by his foster! Although a little shy at first when meeting new people, when given the opportunity, Dutton truly blossoms, showing what an intelligent, dedicated, and cuddly boy he is. Nobody could understand why he wasn’t finding his forever home.
That’s where the 2025 Kia Pet Adoption Grant serves as the bridge for transforming the future for dogs like Dutton, along with longtime friends like Buddy, Enzo, Princessa, Tess, and Cheesecake. By reducing adoption fees, dogs who have been with the rescue for an extended time no longer have the odds working against them. They have the chance at a fresh start working for them. A new beginning is exactly what unfolded for Dutton. We’re happy to report that he has been adopted and is thriving in his new home!
