Polk County Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We were able to find adopters for 16 pets thanks to the reduced adoption fees provided by the Petfinder Foundation-Kia grant. All 16 were dogs and cats that had been in our care for longer terms. Thirteen of the adoptions were for dogs and three were for cats. Some pets are just overlooked and the Kia grant helped us get attention on them so they could be considered by potential adopters and ultimately adopted. We are grateful for the support from the Petfinder Foundation Kia grant.

Dan (first photo) was surrendered to Polk County Humane Society in June 2023. He and his sister were only 6 months old when they were found as strays in a rural area. No one came for them. Dan’s sister, Little Ann, was adopted in August 2023, but Dan waited … and waited … and waited. Even with training, many new photos, and raving profile descriptions, Dan waited.
Dan was finally adopted after a year by a truck driver. What a life! He loved it and so did his adopter. That was until the truck driver’s company banned dogs from riding with their owners. Dan was returned.
Again, he waited. Dan is a vizsla/pit bull mix. He was adopted again. Returned again after a few months due to the new adopter’s health and Dan’s energy.
Finally, with the help of the Petfinder Foundation Kia grant, Dan was adopted in July 2025 and is living his best life. On behalf of Dan and all the others helped by the Petfinder Foundation Kia grant, here are some happy puppy kisses. Thank you!
