Little Lotus Rescue & Sanctuary: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Kippa was surrendered to Little Lotus Rescue when her owner told us that she was "kicked in the head and having seizures." Animal Protection Services is involved and Kippa is now in our care.

We took Kippa in and provided emergency veterinary care to stabilize her until we could get into the neurologist on the following week day. The neurologist said that he thinks that Kippa has a AA subluxation in her spine at the base of her skull. Currently Kippa cannot straighten her head and has it tilted continuously. She was lateral and unable to stand when she was surrendered and our veterinarians had her walking unassisted and stopped her seizures!

The neurologist wanted a CT scan and surgery to stabilize her neck. The neurologist said that the prognosis on a young dog with recent trauma like Kippa is incredible and post-surgery she should have zero physical restrictions and she will be adoptable and good as new.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This grant enabled a little girl named Kippa to see the neurologist after she was reportedly kicked in the head by her previous owners. Because of this grant, she was able to receive diagnostic imaging that helped determine her prognosis and a course of action. Kippa has a residual head tilt, but she was medically cleared by her neurologist after months of rehabilitation!

Kippa is currently in a foster-to-adopt home where we are seeing how she adapts to a family with two other dogs.
