Miles of Hope: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We were able to enclose a large, unused play yard where a fence had previously been damaged and removed. Having this area available again has been a tremendous help in expanding our enrichment program with the active dogs who need extra exercise. Giving them extra outside time to run, play, and interact with other dogs and volunteers keeps them content while they await forever homes and helps them adapt more quickly once they do get adopted and need to transition to home life. This yard is also used for social-media photos and videos that help us showcase our amazing dogs and get them extra exposure.
How many pets did this grant help?
At least 300, likely many more than that
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Fern (first and second photos) is a 5-year-old German shepherd who uses the yard daily. Generally, this breed doesn’t do well in a shelter environment, but with her extra enrichment, she is content and happy in our care.
While she hasn’t found her fur-ever home yet, we know that when the right family comes around, she’ll be an excellent companion for them. She loves running around, exploring the bushes, watching the birds, getting pet and brushed by a volunteer, or just having fun enjoying the sunshine.
