Claresholm Animal Rescue Society: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant gave us the funding we needed to purchase a custom kennel enclosure for the cats at CAReS. The large size of the kennel allows us to keep multiple cats inside, which is important when we have cats brought to the shelter who are bonded to one another -- for example, a mother cat and kittens. This helps them to be less stressed when they transition to the shelter. They have enough space to move around and interact with each other. We also can rotate different cats out of their smaller kennels into this kennel so that they have more room to explore and play.
How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
We took in five adult cats from a lady who had ended up in the hospital and was not expected to survive. The cats are Lily (pictured), Tiggie, Cookie, Rosie, and Brynlee.
Having the larger kennel enclosure allows them to be kept together instead of separating them when they came in to the shelter. They are senior cats and they are used to being together, so this gives them comfort. It also helped them to adapt better to the new environment.
They are on Petfinder for adoption. So far none of those five cats have been adopted yet.
