High Desert Humane Society Globe: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Petfinder Foundation Dog Enrichment Grant significantly improved the quality of life for every dog in our care by providing resources that support their physical health, mental stimulation, comfort, and overall well-being. The addition of KONG Flyers, KONG Knots toys, Super Chewer toys, durable plush toys, squeaky toys, and interactive puzzle toys has given dogs healthy outlets for play, chewing, and problem-solving, helping reduce boredom, anxiety, and stress while encouraging positive behaviors.
Elevated beds, cooling beds, and calming beds have provided dogs with comfortable places to rest while keeping them off the hot ground during Arizona's extreme temperatures. New shade screens have expanded shaded areas throughout our outdoor kennels and play yards, allowing dogs to safely enjoy exercise, enrichment, and socialization even during the hottest months of the year.
The grant also supported better daily care by providing practical equipment, including a pooper scooper that has improved sanitation and efficiency in maintaining clean kennel environments. Together, these items have created a safer, cleaner, and more enriching shelter experience for every dog. The improvements have reduced stress, encouraged healthy activity and social interaction, and helped our dogs present as happier, healthier companions, ultimately increasing their chances of finding loving forever homes.

Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation Dog Enrichment Grant, Scooby (first photo) and Opal (second photo) now enjoy daily enrichment with new toys and improved shade structures in their play yard.
The new sun shades provide much-needed protection from Arizona’s extreme heat, allowing dogs to safely spend more time outdoors exercising, socializing, and playing. The enrichment toys encourage positive behaviors, reduce stress and boredom, and provide important mental stimulation while dogs wait for their forever homes.
These improvements have benefited not only Scooby and Opal, but every dog in our shelter by creating a more comfortable, engaging, and enriching environment that supports their overall health, well-being, and adoptability.
