Living the Dream Rescue: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Sophie has a collapsing trachea and congestive heart failure from mitral valve disease. She is being managed with medications, but the recommendation is to recheck radiographs and bloodwork every six months. Depending on veterinary fees, these costs can range from $300-600 at the six-month recheck. Monthly medications also run about $85. Her adoption fee is $100.
This is a big undertaking for an adopter. We requested a grant to support Sophie's care to the six-month recheck in June for the adopter. Sophie's long-term prognosis is about one to two years with aggressive medical management. Her condition is degenerative so it is not curable.
She is a happy, outgoing dog who takes her medications very well. We also purchased some medications in bulk to send with her adopter as needed to offset some of the additional expense.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Sophie came to LTD after her owner passed away suddenly. She had alopecia X and all of her fur had fallen out. She was also later found to have congestive heart failure. The grant from the Petfinder Foundation allowed us to help cover the cost of her care for her adopter and helped her find a furever home!
Sophie was adopted by a wonderful couple who’d had special-needs Pomeranians in the past. Sophie went to live with another Pom and has formed a wonderful bond with her new parents. She has found her dream home!
