Straight Outta Rescue Society: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Thanks to the support of this grant, we have successfully invested in off-site commercial storage, addressing a major challenge faced by our 100% volunteer-run, foster-based rescue. Previously, the lack of space made it difficult to store essential supplies for our rescues, fosters, events, and spay/neuter campaigns. This often led to us having to turn down in-kind donations or quickly purchase needed items due to space constraints.
With the new storage solution, we’ve streamlined our inventory management, reduced administrative burdens, and significantly increased our operational efficiency. This has enhanced our ability to provide a better experience for both our rescues and foster families. The ease of supply pick-up and drop-off, combined with the improved availability of necessary items, has boosted our foster retention and expanded our capacity to intake more animals in need.
Furthermore, the grant allowed us to secure advance payment discounts on the storage facilities, providing us with even greater value.
Overall, this investment has empowered us to help more cats and dogs in need, and for that, we are incredibly grateful. Thank you for making a difference in our ability to support and care for these animals!
How many pets did this grant help?
This grant has helped us support the over 500 cats and dogs that come through our foster-based adoption program and the hundreds more we support through our colony TNR and community work on an annual basis.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Prince joined our care in January 2024, having been found as a stray in the Downtown Eastside and subsequently landing in the local pound. Thanks to one of our dedicated volunteers, Prince was welcomed into a foster home, marking the beginning of his journey to find a forever home.
Because Prince was a senior pup with some health concerns, his transition required a variety of supplies to address his specific needs: different harnesses, beds, and other essentials were crucial in helping him feel comfortable and secure. The new off-site storage has been instrumental in providing the flexibility to access these items quickly and efficiently, ensuring that Prince and other rescues can adapt smoothly to their new environments.
In May, Prince found his forever home and now enjoys a wonderful life with his new foster sister. And before his departure, he helped his foster mom organize our new storage facility, contributing to our mission even further.
Thanks to the support of our storage solution, we can better cater to the unique needs of each animal, helping them transition successfully and find their forever homes. Prince’s story is a testament to the positive impact of our enhanced operations, and we’re thrilled to see him thriving in his new life!
