Siskiyou Humane Society: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The 2024 Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant from the Petfinder Foundation has been a game-changer for our dogs at the Siskiyou Humane Society. Thanks to this grant, our furry friends have had the chance to go on exciting field trips, explore new places, and meet wonderful people and animals along the way. These adventures have been incredibly beneficial, reducing the dogs' stress and helping them become more social and well-adjusted.
Not only have these outings brought joy and enrichment to our dogs' lives, but they've also boosted their chances of finding forever homes. Our amazing foster families share heartwarming stories and adorable photos on social media, capturing the attention of potential adopters. It's been heartening to see how these shared experiences lead to more inquiries and, ultimately, more adoptions.
A wonderful addition to our shelter from this grant has been new vests for our dogs. These vests clearly display that the dogs are adoptable from the Siskiyou Humane Society and have a reflective strip to increase their safety during outings. This visibility helps in getting our dogs noticed and ensuring they are safe when they're out and about.
The grant has also provided us with essential supplies to enhance training and ensure the wellness and safety of both the dogs and our volunteers. We've been able to purchase new leashes, training collars, and water bottles, making our training sessions more effective and enjoyable for everyone involved.
The grant has also provided fantastic training opportunities. Our dogs are learning to adapt to different settings and routines, making them even more lovable and well-behaved. This makes them irresistible to adopters and helps ensure they transition smoothly into their new homes.
We've also seen significant health benefits. Regular exercise and new experiences have kept our dogs physically fit and mentally stimulated. They come back to the shelter happier and more relaxed, which has a positive impact on their overall well-being and reduces instances of kennel stress.
Moreover, this program has strengthened our community ties. Volunteers and foster families feel more connected and invested in our dogs' welfare, creating a supportive network that extends beyond the shelter walls.
In short, the grant has made a world of difference for our dogs, enhancing their lives, improving their chances of adoption, and bringing our community closer together. We're immensely grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for its support and for helping us make a positive impact on the lives of our beloved dogs.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
One of our greatest success stories from this program is Gronk, a young and agile shelter dog.
Gronk was full of energy, but struggled with leash manners and socialization. In addition, because he was so spunky and full of love, Gronk experienced “happy tail” early upon entering our shelter, meaning he injured his tail by wagging it into our kennel walls a couple too many times.
Thankfully, due to the grant from the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to take him on numerous field trips and provide him with consistent training using new leashes and training collars. His new vest made sure everyone knew he was looking for a home, increasing his visibility. These trips immensely reduced his kennel stress and relieved his symptoms of happy tail.
Through these outings and the dedication of our volunteers, Gronk learned to walk nicely on a leash and became more comfortable around different people and environments. His improved behavior and charming personality caught the eye of a wonderful family who fell in love with him. Gronk has now found the perfect forever home, where he gets all the love and exercise he needs.
In short, this grant made a world of difference for Gronk, improving his quality of life in our shelter as he awaited his forever home and helping him to find it that much faster! Our shelter is immensely grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for its support and for helping us make a positive impact on the lives of our beloved shelter dogs.
